I have had dog's all my life, but did not get my first AKC registered dog until 1973. It was a Beagle for my birthday, from my husband. He had hunting dog's when we got married and thought I should have one as well, so we could run and hunt togeather. I found that I really enjoyed working the dog's and rabbit hunting. In 1976, my husband and I helped organize the Mo-Kan Beagle Club. I was elected Secretary & treasurer for the club and served in that position unitl 1987. When the beagle club's organized the Nation Beagle Gundog Federation, I served as Treasurer unitl 1985. I got my AKC feild trial judge's license in 1982. My goal was to judge the national run-off in the field, but I was never selected. But I did get to judge the show portion for the trial. I had the great pleasure of doing it again in 1998.
About 1980, we were at a field trial and I spotted what I thought was a Dobie puppy, but it was a Miniature Pinscher. I told my husband that I wanted one, since he would not let me have a Dobie. So I started with one, the there were two and then three. During this time I had really gotten interested in the show part of the field trial's and wanted to start showing in the Conformatin Show's.
The boy min-pin's I had were not quit show quality. The bitch I had was nice and I found a champion to breed to and produced my first show dog. He was a red male "Ch. RMP'S VENTURE TO FAME". When I started showing all I had was a dog and a lead. Fame rode to the show's in the front seat next to me, with his head laying on my leg and a towel to lay on. The day he died, I was driving him to the vet's, laying on the seat with his head on my leg, he passed away before we got there.
After I finished Fame, I went to Marcia Tucker "Sunsprite" and Pam Ruggie and got a Nubby Silk son, and to Gloria & Karen Knapp "Chateau Acres" and got a bitch. This was my foundation stock for want was to come. After I finished Sprite and Margi, I bred them and got a wonderful little girl. "Rocky Top Sun On Silk. "Sissy" was a hot little number that finished so fast it made my head spin. I should have specialized her but I did not, looking back I really wished I had done so.
As the years passed I had so much fun and met a lot of wonderful and helpful people. I have made some friednships that have lasted. We can compete in the ring and each of us wants to win but we can walk out of the ring and always be happy for the other persons good luck.
A few years ago I was starting to look around for new breeding stock in the min-pins. But I was not having any luck finding what I had my mind set on getting. My Min-Pin buddy had gotten a Chinese Crested and I got a chance to get to know the breed and really fell for them. My husband had tolerated the Min-Pins but he fell for the crested's as well.
I went on a search for the crested's. I sent out about 30 letter's to all the breeder's I could find and received only three answers. One of the breeder's passed my inquiry on to Anna Morton "Babylon". Anna wrote to me and we talking on the phone and I purchased my first show dog from her. After I finished "Profit" I did not have anything else to show and she asked me if I would show some of her dog's. I ended up handling 5 dog's and finished 3 and 2 just needed major's to finish when I sent them home for the winter. In the mean time I had purchased some breeding stock from Lee-Win's and had done some breeding and was producing my own show dog's.
I want to thank all the people that have been so much help to me over the years....See you at the show's!
